Ryan Clark

Ryan is a good player no one is denying that. But he is terribly inconsistent. And with Troy out it appears as if he has been exposed. He takes bad angles to the football, whiffs on tackles because he is trying to lower the boom and misses.

The coaching staff does not expect him to be a Polamalu clone that would be an insane expectation. But he just does not make plays on the football and that is unexceptable. The defense the Steelers currently run is predicated on pressure, disguise, and turnovers, as well as sure tackling.

Now all of the breakdowns occuring in the secondary are not his fault, but he is responsible to relay the calls. And there has been mass confusion back there. Like asking a construction worker to do brain surgery, probably not the best idea.

He initially signed here for a very modest contract, and he may not be looking for an amount outside the Steelers range. So he could for all intensive purposes return to Pittsburgh.

But one thing the Steelers rarely get caught up in is a bidding war. So if more than one team comes calling they will alow him to leave. I believe they have an excellent shot at Taylor Mays from USC in the draft anyway and in a year he could be special.
